Abstract

Resistance of given plant tissue to an inhibitor of acetolactate synthase is identified by PA1 (a) combining in an aqueous medium a sample of the plant tissue, the inhibitor of acetolactate synthase, and an inhibitor of keto acid reductoisomerase; PA1 (b) allowing time for acetolactate to accumulate; PA1 (c) rupturing the cells; PA1 (d) acidifying the mixture to convert any accumulated acetolactate to acetoin; and PA1 (e) calorimetrically detecting the presence of acetoin in the mixture.
