Abstract
A barrier composite film comprises a base film, an anchor coat layer, an inorganic layer such as a silicon oxide layer, and a coating layer containing a silane coupling agent and a barrier resin (e.g. a vinylidene chloride-series copolymer, an ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer), the layers being formed on at least one side of the base film in the order of reference. The anchor coat layer can be made of (A) a chlorine-containing resin such as a vinyl chloride-vinyl acetate copolymer, (B) a polyisocyanate compound, and (C) a saturated polyester resin having a glass transition temperature of -10.degree. C. to 20.degree. C. and being substantially unreactive to the component (B). A heat-sealing layer may be formed on the surface of the coating layer or the other side of the base film. This composite film provided with the inorganic layer can avoid a loss of its adhesive properties and barrier properties even under severe conditions such as retort treatment.
