Abstract
A thermal dye transfer assemblage comprising: PA1 (a) a dye-donor element comprising a support having thereon a dye layer comprising a dye dispersed in a polymeric binder, the dye being: PA2 I) an electrically neutral, deprotonated, delocalized cationic dye precursor; PA2 II) a pendant basic dye of the formula D-(L-E).sub.m wherein D represents the residue of a dye, L represents a covalent linking group, E represents a moiety with basic properties and m is an integer of 1-3; or PA2 III) a cationic dye precursor having the following structure: ##STR1## (b) a dye-receiving element comprising a support having thereon a polymeric dye image-receiving layer, the dye-receiving element being in a superposed relationship with the dye-donor element so that the dye layer is in contact with the polymeric dye image-receiving layer, the polymeric dye image-receiving layer comprising an acidic salt formed from the reaction of a weak, nitrogen-containing base with a strong protic acid dissolved or dispersed in a polymeric binder.
