Abstract
Process for the manufacture of pentafluoroethane HFC 125! by reaction of perchloroethylene with hydrogen fluoride in the vapor phase over a fluorination catalyst in a fluorination reactor with recycle of dichlorotrifluoroethane HCFC 123! and chlorotetrafluoroethane HCFC 124! to the fluorination reactor, wherein tetrafluoroethane HFC 134a! is also recycled to the fluorination reactor. The tetrafluoroethane and the chlorotetrafluoroethane can both be separated from the product stream in a single distillation column and recycled, together to the fluorination reactor.
