Abstract

The invention provides a photographic element comprising a light sensitive silver halide emulsion layer having associated therewith a dye-forming coupler having formula I: ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 is selected from the group consisting of alkyl, aryl, and heterocyclic groups; PA1 R.sub.2 is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, alkyl, aryl, and heterocyclic groups; PA1 W is C(O) or S(O).sub.2 ; PA1 R.sub.3 is selected from the group consisting of alkyl, alkoxy, aryl, aryloxy, and amino groups; PA1 each R.sub.4 is independently selected from the group consisting of alkyl, alkoxy, aryl, aryloxy, and alkylamino groups, and n is an integer from 1 to 4; PA1 Y is a substituent; and PA1 X is H or a coupling-off group; PA1 provided that the number of carbon atoms contained in R.sub.1, R.sub.2, R.sub.3 and R.sub.4 combined is at least 18 and provided further that any two or more of R.sub.1, R.sub.2, R.sub.3 and R.sub.4 may be joined to form a ring.
