Abstract
The invention provides polyunsaturated fatty acid compounds having antimalarial and/or neutrophil stimulatory activity, or anti-inflammatory activity. The polyunsaturated fatty acids contain a 16-26 carbon chain, 3-6 double bonds and are covalently coupled at the carboxylic acid group to an amino acid. It is preferred that the fatty acid contains 18-22 carbons and that the amino acid is glycine or aspartic acid. Preferred compounds are .gamma.-linolenic acid-glycine, .alpha.-linolenic acid-glycine, arachidonic acid-aspartic acid, eicosapentaenoic acid-aspartic acid and docosahexaenoic acid-aspartic acid.
