Abstract

A simple and convenient process is provided to introduce a sufficient quantity of functional groups to a main chain or terminals of the chain of a polyarylene sulfide resin to improve properties of the resin. The invention provides a process for heat oxidation crosslinking a polyarylene sulfide resin, characterized by conducting the heat oxidation crosslinking reaction in the presence of at least one organic compound having at least one active-hydrogen-containing group or at least one organic compound having at least one active-hydrogen-containing group and a group derived from an active hydrogen containing group by substituting an active hydrogen of the active hydrogen containing group with an alkali metal, to thereby prepare a functional group-containing polyarylene sulfide resin.
