Abstract

A novel process for the preparation of 2-chloro-benzimidazole derivatives of the formula in which PA1 A represents optionally halogenated alkylene having 1 or 2 carbon atoms, which process comprises reacting 1,3-dihydro-benzimidazol(ethi)ones of the formula ##STR1## in which X represents oxygen or sulphur, with phosphorus oxychloride. Novel 1,3-dihydro-benzimidazol(ethi)ones of the formula (II) and processes for their preparation.
