Abstract
A method for forming an image is disclosed. The method comprises the steps of exposing a photographic image forming medium by scanning by a light beam, and developing the photographic image forming medium to form an image, PA1 wherein the diameter and the intensity of light beam are controlled so that the diameter and the intensity satisfy the following relations (1), (2) and (3) within the range of the reflection optical density of an image to be formed after developing of from larger than 0.8 to 3.0; PA1 (1) the value of .alpha. is substantially the same as the value of .beta. when .alpha.=I.sub.d1 .times.D.sub.d1.sup.2 and .beta.=I'.sub.d1 .times.D.sub.0.8, and PA1 (2) D.sub.d1 <D.sub.0.8 PA1 (3) (D.sub.d2 -D.sub.d1)/(d.sub.2 -.sub.1)<0 PA1 wherein I.sub.d1 and D.sub.d1 are each intensity and diameter of light beam to form an image having relection optical density of d.sub.1 ; D.sub.0.8 is the diameter of light beam to form an image having density of 0.8; I'.sub.d1 is intensity of the light beam to form an image having a density of d1 when the diameter of the light beam is fixed at D.sub.0.8 ; d.sub.1 is reflection optical density of image of larger than 0.8 and not larger 3.0 a…
