Abstract

A liquid crystal display device includes a first substrate having pixel electrodes and active elements formed thereon in a matrix form, a second substrate having common electrodes formed thereon which face the pixel electrodes, and a liquid crystal located between the first and second substrates and having a spontaneous polarization. The ON current of the active elements satisfies the following equation (11): EQU 4.times.Ps.times.S/TS (11) where S is the area of each pixel, Ps is a spontaneous polarization per unit area, TS is the selection time of each pixel and Ion is the ON current.
