Abstract
By extracting hot water-insoluble and ethanol-insoluble components of the fruit body of Agaricus blazei Murill belonging to the genus Agaricus with 5% ammonium oxalate aqueous solution, degrading the extract with hydrochloric acid and then purifying the acid-degraded product through gel permeation and affinity chromatography, there are obtained the antitumor-active substances having a weight-average molecular weight of 38.times.10.sup.4 daltons and a dispersion degree of 2.3, a weight-average molecular weight of 29.times.10.sup.4 daltons and a dispersion degree of 7.3, a weight-average molecular weight of 2.4.times.10.sup.4 daltons and a dispersion degree of 4.1, and a weight-average molecular weight of 2.0.times.10.sup.4 daltons and a dispersion degree of 3.6. These substances exhibit a significant antitumor effect against solid tumor, when determined by gel permeation.
