Abstract

An ink jet recording element comprising a water-impervious support having thereon the following layers: PA1 a) a water-absorbing layer; and PA1 b) an image-recording layer comprising a colloidal oxide and a pigment dispersed in a binder, the binder comprising a mixture of poly(ethylene glycol) having a molecular weight of from about 1400 to about 35,000 and poly(vinyl alcohol), the ratio of the poly(ethylene glycol) to the poly(vinyl alcohol) being from about 1:0.8 to about 1:1.5.
