Abstract
A position sensing switch combined with a slide retainer for injection molds of the type having at least a portion of the molding cavity formed in slides which are slidingly mounted on one of a pair of mold halves such that the slides advance between open and closed positions laterally relative to the mold halves as the mold halves are similarly advanced between open and closed positions. The slide retainer comprises a locking member, such as a spring loaded plunger secured on the slide, and a receiver, such as a detent formed on a slide plate of the mold half to which the slide is slidably connected. The detent is formed in a cover plate extending over a cavity extending into the slide plate and in which the switch is positioned. The switch is positioned with its plunger in alignment with a hole extending through the cover plate and into the detent such the slide retainer plunger engages the switch plunger, directly or indirectly, when the slide retainer plunger is advanced into the detent, activating or changing the switch condition and electronically verifying the position of the slide in the open position.
