An iron--cobalt alloy the chemical composition of which comprises, by weight: 35%.ltoreq.Co.ltoreq.55%; 0.5%.ltoreq.V.ltoreq.2.5%; 0.02%.ltoreq.Ta+2.times.Nb.ltoreq.0.2%; 0.0007%.ltoreq.B.ltoreq.0.007%; C.ltoreq.0.05%; the balance being iron and impurities resulting from the smelting operation.
