Abstract
A magnetostrictive material includes a rare earth element and a transition metal element, and has a plurality of spherical voids dispersed in the entire area thereof. The void content Vc is set in a range of 10%.ltoreq.Vc.ltoreq.40%. Thus, it is possible to provide a magnetostrictive material having a practical mechanical strength and a substantially increased magnetostriction amount.
