Abstract

Novel compounds which are effective PDE IV inhibitors are disclosed. The present invention is directed to compounds having the general formula I ##STR1## wherein: X is a halogen; PA1 Q is --CH.sub.2 --CH.sub.2 --, --CH.sub.2 --, a single or a double bond, or --NR.sub.1 --; PA1 R.sub.1 is a C.sub.3-7 monocyclic ring structure containing at least one carbon atom and comprising one or more chalcogen atoms selected from the group consisting of nitrogen, sulfur and oxygen, wherein the monocyclic ring is unsaturated, partially unsaturated or saturated, and is optionally substituted with alkyl, cycloalkyl, alkoxy, cycloalkoxy, hydroxy or halogen; or is a bicyclic structure, comprised of a phenyl ring fused to a monocyclic ring structure as defined above, or comprised of two fused monocyclic ring structures, each ring containing at least one carbon atom and comprising one or more chalcogen atoms selected from the group consisting of nitrogen, sulfur and oxygen, wherein the monocyclic ring is unsaturated, partially unsaturated or saturated, and is optionally substituted with alkyl, cycloalkyl, alkoxy, cycloalkoxy, hydroxy or halogen. PA1 R.sub.2 is a phenyl group or a C.sub.3-7 monocyclic r…
