Abstract
A material for forming a black matrix for a color liquid crystal display comprising: PA1 (A) an alkali-soluble resin obtained by the condensation reaction of phenols containing at least cresol with aldehydes; PA1 (B) an acid-crosslinkable methylolated melamine compound; PA1 (C) a compound which absorbs a light and then generates an acid; PA1 (D) a dispersant represented by formula (I): ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 represents a straight chain or branched alkyl group having from 1 to 24 carbon atoms, and this alkyl group may have a substituent; R.sub.2 and R.sub.3 each represents a hydrogen atom or a methyl group; R.sub.4 represents a hydrogen atom, a straight chain or branched alkyl group having from 1 to 24 carbon atoms, --COR.sub.5 or --CONR.sub.6, and this alkyl group may have a substituent; R.sub.5 and R.sub.6 each represents an alkyl group having from 1 to 12 carbon atoms, an aryl group having from 6 to 12 carbon atoms, or an alkenyl group having from 6 to 32 carbon atoms; m represents 0, 1 or 2; n represents 1, 2 or 3, provided that m+n is 3; and a and b each represents a number of from 0 to 200, provided that a+b is from 2 to 200; and PA1 (E) a black pigment.
