Abstract
Disclosed are PA1 (a) liquid crystalline compounds which are essential as component of the liquid crystal compositions, are excellent in miscibility with other liquid crystal compositions, particularly in the miscibility at low temperatures, and expressed by the general formula (1) ##STR1## wherein R.sub.0 and R.sub.1 independently represent an alkyl group having 1 to 10 carbon atoms; ring A.sub.0, ring A.sub.1, ring A.sub.2, and ring A.sub.3 represent 1,4-cyclohexylene group, 1,3-dioxane-2,5-diyl group, 1,4-phenylene group in which one or more hydrogen atoms on the ring may be represented by a halogen atom or R.sub.2 O group, pyridine-2,5-diyl group, or pyrimidine-2,5-diyl group; Z.sub.0, Z.sub.1, Z.sub.2, and Z.sub.3 represent --CH.sub.2 CH.sub.2 --, --CH.dbd.CH--, --C.tbd.C--, --CH.sub.2 O--, --OCH.sub.2 --, --CF.sub.2 O--, --OCF.sub.2 --, --COO--, --OCO--, --(CH.sub.2).sub.4 --, or single bond; Q.sub.1 and Q.sub.2 represent hydrogen atom or a halogen atom; Q.sub.3 represents hydrogen atom, a halogen atom, or R.sub.2 O group; R.sub.2 represents an alkyl group having 1 to 10 carbon atoms; Y represents a halogen atom, cyano group, or an alkyl group having 1 to 10 carbon atoms; l, …
