Abstract

Disclosed is a photographic element complising a light sensitive silver halide emulsion layer having associated therewith a cyan dye forming coupler having Formula (I): ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 and R.sub.3 independently represent hydrogen or an alkyl group; PA1 R.sub.2 represents a carbocyclic or heterocyclic aromatic group; PA1 n represents 1, 2, or 3; PA1 each X is an independently selected substituent where at least one X located at a position of the phenyl ring meta or para to the sulfonyl group and is either an alkoxy group having a branched carbon or an aiyloxy group; and PA1 Z represents hydrogen or a group that can be split off by the reaction of the coupler with an oxidized color-developing compound; PA1 provided that the substituents of the compound of formula (I) are selected so that the compound has a melting point of 160.degree. C. or less. The element provides improved phase stability during manufacturing while exhibiting satisfactory hue and dye light stability.
