Abstract

Couplers for hair coloring compositions for oxidative dyeing of hair are compounds of the formula at least one coupler comprising a compound of the formula: ##STR1## wherein R is selected from the group consisting of C.sub.1 to C.sub.2 alkyl and hydroxyethyl, R.sup.1 is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, chlorine, bromine, C.sub.1 to C.sub.3 alkyl, C.sub.1 to C.sub.3 alkoxy, C.sub.1 to C.sub.3 hydroxyalkyl and C.sub.1 to C.sub.3 hydroxyalkoxy, and X is O, S or NH.
