Abstract
A composition which, when subjected to heat, expands to form heat-insulating barriers comprises an expandable graphite, a fire retardant, and an inorganic intumescent filler such as clay dispersed in a resinous emulsion. Particularly desirable results are obtained with a fire retardant which is a C.sub.2 -C.sub.8 alkyl diamine phosphate.
