Abstract
Disclosed are methods of reducing fibrosis and adhesion formation in a surgical patient wherein the AT.sub.1 receptor antagonist, the compound (S)-N-(1-carboxy-2-methylprop-1-yl)-N-pentanoyl-N-[2'(1H-tetrazol-5-yl)bip henyl-4-yl-methyl]amine (valsartan) of formula ##STR1## or a salt thereof, in particular a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, is administered to the patient. In particular, disclosed are methods of reducing pericardial fibrosis and pericardial adhesion formation which results from cardiac surgery.
