Abstract

Compounds of formula (I) and pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof, wherein R.sup.1, R.sup.2, AA and Y are as defined herein, inhibit phosphodiesterase type IV or inhibit the production of tumor necrosis factor, and therefore are useful in the treatment of certain conditions and diseases including asthma, arthritis, and sepsis. ##STR1##
