Abstract
To purify a dimethyl sulphoxide (DMSO), it is placed in contact with a plurality of cation exchange resins at least one of which is a resin of sulphonic type in --SO.sub.3 H or --SO.sub.3 NH.sub.4 form, it being possible for the other or others to be of chelating type. The DMSO thus obtained has an iron cation content lower than 1 ppb and a sodium cation content lower than 2 ppb.
