Abstract

This invention is directed to a method of removing color bodies from paper mill waste water comprising adding to the water an effective color-removing amount of a hydrophilic cationic dispersion polymer prepared by polymerizing PA0 i. a cationic diallyl-N,N-disubstituted ammonium monomer of formula EQU (H.sub.2 C.dbd.CHCH.sub.2).sub.2 N.sup.+ R.sub.1 R.sub.2 X.sup.- PA0 wherein R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 are independently C.sub.1 -C.sub.20 alkyl, aryl, alkylaryl or arylalkyl and X is an anionic counterion and PA0 ii. an acrylamide monomer of formula ##STR1## PA0 wherein R.sub.3 and R.sub.4 are independently hydrogen, C.sub.1 -C.sub.10 alkyl, aryl or arylalkyl; R.sub.5 is hydrogen or methyl and R.sub.6 and R.sub.7 are independently hydrogen or C.sub.1 -C.sub.10 alkyl, in an aqueous solution of a polyvalent anionic salt wherein the polymerization is carried out in the presence of a dispersant.
