Abstract
The application discloses methods of treating mammalian diseases characterized by undesirable angiogenesis by administering compounds including those having the general formulae ##STR1## wherein A is a fused tropone having a general formula: ##STR2## wherein X is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, hydroxy, carboxy, halogen, nitro, C.sub.1 to C.sub.12 alkenyl, C.sub.1 to C.sub.12 alkyl, C.sub.1 to C.sub.12 alkoxy, SR, NR.sub.2, OSO.sub.3.sup.-, OSO.sub.2 NR.sub.2, HNSO.sub.3.sup.-, NHSO.sub.2 NR.sub.2, SSO.sub.3.sup.-, SSO.sub.2 NR.sub.2, wherein R is hydrogen or a C.sub.1 to C.sub.6 alkyl and the 17-ester and keto derivatives thereof, in a dosage sufficient to inhibit cell mitosis. The application discloses novel compounds used in the method of the invention.
