Abstract
An active cathode material for a lithium rechargeable cell is in the form of lithium-containing nickel oxide substituted by three elements including at least cobalt and aluminum. The material has a monoclinic crystal structure and the following general formula: EQU Li.sub.L Ni.sub.(1-C-A-M) Co.sub.C Al.sub.A Mg.sub.M O.sub.2 where: PA1 0.05.ltoreq.L.ltoreq.1.03 PA1 0.05.ltoreq.C.ltoreq.0.20 PA1 0.11.ltoreq.A.ltoreq.0.20 PA1 0.01.ltoreq.M.ltoreq.0.05 PA1 and C/A.gtoreq.0.60
