Abstract
Compounds selected from the group consisting of formulae I, II, III, IV, VI, VII, and VIII ##STR1## wherein R is H or NH.sub.2, and pharmacologically acceptable salts thereof, are suitable for use in methods for treating non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (NIDDM) or obesity in a patient susceptible to or experiencing NIDDM or obesity by the systemic administration of such a compound in an amount effective to treat the NIDDM or obesity.
