Abstract
Disclosed are pharmaceutical compositions and formulations comprising benzoquinoline derivatives having the formula (I) to (V), wherein formula (I) is: ##STR1## PA1 X is selected from the group consisting of O, S, CH.sub.2, CH.sub.2 -CH.sub.2, C.dbd.O or NR.sub.B ; PA1 Y is C or N; PA1 R.sub.1, R.sub.2, R.sub.3 and R.sub.4 are independently selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, halogen, linear or branched chain lower alky, alkenyl, alkynyl, alkoxy or acyl; PA1 X-R.sub.A and R.sub.3, or R.sub.3 and R.sub.4, are optionally linked together to form a C.sub.3 -C.sub.4 alkylene bridge, where X is CH.sub.2 or C.dbd.O; provided that: PA1 when X is NR.sub.B, then PA2 (a) R.sub.B is hydrogen, and R.sub.A is a linear or branched chain lower alkyl, aryl, heteroaryl, cycloalkyl or cycloalkenyl optionally interrupted by at least one heteroatom, said alkyl, alkenyl, alkynyl, aryl, heteroaryl, cycloalkyl or cycloalkenyl being optionally substituted singly or plurally by at least one of a linear or branched chain lower alkyl, alkenyl, alkynyl, acyl, alkoxy, or cycloalkyl optionally interrupted by at least one heteroatom and optionally substituted by at least one linear or branched chain l…
