Abstract
The present invention is directed to a process for effecting the allylic oxidation of an allylic compound having at least two allylic hydrogen atoms on the same carbon atom into corresponding .alpha.,.beta.-unsaturated carbonyl compound, using a combination of a metal hypochlorite and an alkyl hydroperoxide in a mixture of suitable conventional organic solvent(s) and/or water at a temperature of between about -5.degree. C. to +25.degree. C.
