Abstract

The present invention relates to a new catalyst based on allyl complexes of the rare earths, of general formula EQU [(C.sub.3 R.sup.1.sub.5).sub.r M.sup.1 (X).sub.2-r (D).sub.n ].sup.+ [M.sup.2 (X).sub.p (C.sub.6 H.sub.5-q R.sup.2.sub.q).sub.4-p ].sup.- (I), to the preparation of this new catalyst, and to its use for the polymerization of unsaturated compounds, particularly of conjugated dienes, in solution and in the gas phase.
