Abstract

A process for the preparation of 2,3-dihydroindoles of the formula (I) ##STR1## by reaction of halostyrenes of the formula (IIa) or (IIb) ##STR2## with amines of the formula (III) EQU R.sup.1 --NH.sub.2 (III) in at least one inert solvent or in water, and in the presence of at least one base.
