Abstract
Disclosed is a compound of formula (I), and its use in preparing metathesis polymers of dicyclopentadiene and/or other strained cycloolefins ##STR1## in which PA1 Me is ruthenium or osmium; PA1 X.sup.1 and X.sup.2 independently of one another are anionic ligands, or X.sup.1 and X.sup.2 together are a bis-anionic ligand; PA1 Y is oxygen, sulfur or the groups --NR.sup.7 -- or --PR.sup.7 --, where R.sup.7 is hydrogen or a substituent selected from the group C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkyl, C.sub.6 -C.sub.13 aralkyl, sulfonyl and --C(.dbd.O)R.sup.s2 and R.sup.s2 is hydrogen or a substituent selected from the group C.sub.1 -C.sub.12 alkyl, C.sub.2 -C.sub.12 alkenyl, C.sub.3 -C.sub.12 cycloalkyl, C.sub.3 -C.sub.12 cycloalkenyl, C.sub.2 -C.sub.11 heterocycloalkyl, C.sub.2 -C.sub.11 heterocycloalkenyl, C.sub.5 -C.sub.12 aryl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.9 heteroaryl, C.sub.6 -C.sub.14 aralkyl, C.sub.2 -C.sub.13 heteroaralkyl, C.sub.6 -C.sub.14 aralkenyl and C.sub.3 -C.sub.13 heteroaralkenyl; PA1 n is 0 or 1; PA1 L.sup.1 is tertiary phosphine; PA1 and L.sup.2 is a neutral e.sup.- donor ligand which is coordinated to the metal atom and is attached via the bridge group C* to the carbon atom of the carbene group if…
