Abstract
The present invention provides a novel compound represented by the general formula I: ##STR1## wherein R is H or COR.sup.3 ; PA1 R.sup.1 is H, R.sup.2, phenyl, or COR.sup.3, wherein R.sup.2 is C.sub.1 -C.sub.5 lower alkyl and R.sup.3 is R.sup.2 or phenyl; PA1 Z is CH.sub.2 or O; PA1 Y is OH, OCOR.sup.3 or .dbd.O; PA1 x is 0 or 1; and PA1 X is C.sub.1 -C.sub.5 n-alkyl, C.sub.3 -C.sub.7 cycloalkyl, phenyl, furanyl, thienyl or substituted derivatives thereof, wherein the substituents maybe selected from the group consisting of C.sub.1 -C.sub.5 alkyl, halogen, CF.sub.3, CN, NO.sub.2, NR.sup.4.sub.2, CO.sub.2 R.sup.4 and OR.sup.4 wherein R.sup.4 is hydrogen or C.sub.1 -C.sub.5 alkyl and dotted lines represent the presence or absence of a double bond and wavy lines represent a cis or trans bond. These novel compounds are especially useful for treating elevated intraocular pressure (ocular hypertension) and glaucoma.
