Abstract
A silver halide photographic material comprises at least one silver halide emulsion comprising silver halide grains having associated therewith at least two dyes: PA1 (a) a first dye that has at least one anionic substituent and that is capable of spectrally sensitizing a silver halide emulsion; and PA1 (b) a second dye of formula II ##STR1## PA1 wherein: PA2 R.sup.1 is a substituted or unsubstituted alkyl or aryl group; PA2 E.sup.3 represents the atoms necessary to complete a substituted or unsubstituted 5- or 6-membered heterocyclic nucleus; PA2 Ar.sup.1 represents an electron-withdrawing substituted aryl, or a substituted or unsubstituted electron-withdrawing heteroaryl group; PA2 L.sup.11 through L.sup.14 are substituted or unsubstituted methine groups; PA2 s is 0 or 1; PA2 G.sup.1 is an electron-withdrawing group; PA2 G.sup.2 is O or dicyanovinyl (C(CN).sub.2); PA2 W.sup.1 is a counterion if necessary.
