Abstract

Disclosed are novel succinate derivative compounds of the formula(I)/(Ia): ##STR1## wherein R1, R2, R3, R4, R5, R6, R7, X and A are defined herein. The compounds are useful as inhibitors of cysteine proteases. Also disclosed are methods of using and methods of making such compounds.
