Abstract

The present invention provides an electrically conductive adhesive hydrogel comprising from about 15 to about 60%, by weight of a cationic polymer prepared by the polymerization of a monomer having the formula: wherein m is an integer of from 1 to 3; R1, R2 and R3 are selected from the group consisting of H and hydrocarbyl radicals having from 1 to 15 carbon atoms and X− is an anion and from about 5 to less than about 40% water, by weight. This electrically conductive adhesive hydrogel is useful in the manufacture of medical devices, e.g. medical electrodes, and in particular, in iontophoretic medicament delivery devices wherein said polymer may function as a scavenger of hydroxyl ions generated during iontophoresis.
