Abstract
Picture signals entering a picture input device 4 are compressed by a picture compression device 5 for storing the resulting compressed picture data in a secondary storage device 7 via a primary storage device 6. The picture compression system is switched for recording a moving picture and for recording a still picture by switching picture compression parameters of the picture compression device 5 by a picture compression system switching device 10 between those for moving picture recording and those for still picture recording.
