Abstract

In a run-length limited encoding method used in an optical data storage system for encoding input data of two bits into corresponding output data of five bits, a minimum run-length of zeroes (0's) in a stream of the output data is 3; a maximum run-length of zeroes (0's) in the stream of the output data is 11; and the number of 1 included in binary numbers of five bits expressing the corresponding output data is 1 or 0. In the encoding method, the input data of two bits is one of “00”, “01”, “10” and “11”; and the corresponding output data is one of “10000”, “01000”, “00100” and “00010”.
