Abstract
The invention relates to a process for the preparation of monohalogenated 2-oxo-1,3-dioxolanes of the general formulaC3H3XO3  (I)in whichX is Cl or Br,characterized in that the monohalogenation is carried out starting from ethylene carbonate with sulfuryl dihalides under UV irradiation and in the absence of solvents.
