Abstract

A dye of Formula (1) or tautomer thereof: wherein:A is di-, tri-, tetra-, or penta-substituted phenyl;R1 is methyl;R2 is H, CN, alkyl, substituted alkyl, alkenyl, substituted alkenyl, alkynyl, substituted alkynyl, aryl, substituted aryl or a carbonamido group; andR3 is 5- or 6-membered ring comprising carbon atoms and one or two O, N and/or S atoms, wherein the ring may be substituted are useful as a component for inks, especially, ink jet printing inks and provide good storage stability, and high color strength. Inks containing the dye of formula (1) with a water dissipatable polymer in an aqueous medium produce images having high light-fastness and water-fastness and may be printed on various substrates, including paper, overhead transparencies and textiles, and may be applied using ink jet printers.
