Abstract
A process for destroying or preventing the proliferation of microorganisms involving contacting the microorganisms with a quaternary carboxylic acid alkanolamine ester salt corresponding to formula I: wherein R1CO is an acyl group having from 2 to 18 carbon atoms, R2 and R3, independently of one another, represent an alkyl group containing from 1 to 16 carbon atoms, or a group corresponding to CH2CH2OR5, R4 is an alkyl group containing from 1 to 4 carbon atoms, R5 is hydrogen and/or R1CO, and X is an anion; is disclosed.
