Abstract

Disclosed are an azo dye having the following formula (1), an ink-jet ink comprising the aforesaid azo dye, an ink-jet recording method using the aforesaid ink-jet ink, and a thermal transfer recording material comprising the aforesaid azo dye: wherein Z represents an atomic group which forms, together with a nitrogen atom, a five-, six- or seven-membered ring, R1 represents a hydrogen atom, an oxy radical, an aliphatic group, an aliphatic oxy group, an acyl group, an aliphatic oxycarbonyl group, an aryloxycarbonyl group or an acyloxy group, R2, R3, R4 and R5, which may be the same or different, each represents an alkyl group, or R2 and R3 and/or R4 and R5 may be combined with each other to form a ring, and Dye represents a dye moiety group necessary for forming an azo dye.
