Abstract

A motor/generator is provided with a stator (14) and rotors (2, 3). The stator (14) comprises a plurality of cores (11, 12) arranged on a circle. Each core (11, 12) has a base (11A, 12A) of a trapezoidal cross-section which increases a width in a direction away from the center of the stator (14). Deformation of the cores (11, 12) towards the center of the stator (14) is limited by retaining plates (18) each of which is engaged with the bases (11A, 12A) of adjacent cores (11, 12). The retaining plates (18) are formed to have a trapezoidal cross-section which increases a width in a direction towards the center of the stator (14). Rings (21, 22) are press fitted to an inner side of the both ends of the retaining plates (18). Preferably a reinforcing ring (25) is provided to support the inner periphery of the retaining plates (18).
