Abstract
A compact, hand held device for curing photosensitive dental compositions curable by way of irradiation with light of predetermined wavelength includes: a handle configured for gripping by a user; a light emitting diode head assembly secured to the handle including at least one light emitting diode constructed to emit light of the predetermined wavelength in response to an applied operating current, the light emitting diode having a characteristic maximum luminous power output; and a current supply coupled to the light emitting diode adapted for operating the light emitting diode at a luminous power output of at least about 85 percent of its characteristic maximum luminous power output.
