Abstract
Carbon material having at least a partially curved structure, such as a nanotube, produced by a displacement reaction in which a carbon halide, e.g. C2Cl6, is reacted with a metal compound, e.g., lithium acetylide in the presence of a catalyst, e.g., CoCl2. Some applications of the nanotubes of the present invention are use in magnetic data storage media, or use as conductors or semiconductors.
