Abstract

The invention relates to additives to improve the reversibility of a carbon electrode of a lithium ion secondary electrochemical generator. These additives are composed of cyclic or non-cyclic &agr;-halogenated esters such as &agr;-bromo-&ggr;-butyrolactone or methyl chloroformiate. They may be added to the electrolyte at a rate of 0.5 to 3% by volume or adsorbed on the carbon electrode to form a passivation film on said electrode during the first use of the generator.
