Abstract

A polarimetric sensor includes a sensor unit constructed as a permanently assembled unit having a polarizer, a sensor element and an analyzer. An input optical waveguide and an output optical waveguide with a core diameter of at least 100 &mgr;m are provided. A first light signal emerging from the input optical waveguide passes directly through the sensor unit and enters the output optical waveguide as a second light signal. An optical path of the first light signal through the sensor element is no longer than 50 times the core diameter of the output optical waveguide. No separate focussing or collimation optics are provided.
