Abstract

Water-soluble nonionic polyurethanes as protective colloids for the polymerization of olefinically unsaturated monomers in aqueous medium wherein the water-soluble nonionic polyurethanes have been prepared by reactinga) organic polyisocyanates withb) water-soluble polyalkylene glycols containing at least 70% by weight of ethylene glycol groups and withc) polyhydric branched alcohols containing at least three hydroxyl groups per molecule and whereinthe equivalent ratio of b) to c) is in the range from 1:0.01 to 1:10 and the equivalent ratio of [b)+c)] to a) is in the range from 1:0.6 to 1:0.85.
