Abstract
This invention relates to a method of regenerating nervous tissue by contacting the tissue with Schwann cells that express &Dgr;SCIP. The inventors have demonstrated herein that Schwann cells expressing &Dgr;SCIP induce regeneration of nervous tissue. Also provided by the present invention is a method for treating a subject in need of nervous tissue regeneration by introducing Schwann cells expressing &Dgr;SCIP into the subject.
